Carl T. Storm, resident of Kingston Residence in Hickory, died on April 30, 2013 after a brief illness. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio on April 22, 1917 to Thurston and Bertha Storm.
Carl grew up in Youngstown and graduated from South High School. After high school, he completed International Correspondence School. He served in Ordinance Division of the Army for 42 months during World War II and was stationed in Normandy and northern France, England, and Germany. After the war, he worked for Coal Metal Products in the engineering department. For most of his working years, he was a draftsman with Ajax Magnathermic until he retired in 1980.
Carl married Dorothy Davies in November 1950 in Youngstown, OH. They were happily married for 62 years. When living in Youngstown, Carl was an active member of the Boardman Westminster Presbyterian Church serving as an elder. He was a member of Western Star, the Grotto, and Vasa Order of America (Swedish-American fraternal organization). He and Dorothy volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
He and Dorothy moved to Hickory in 1996 where he joined the First Presbyterian Church and was active in the Heritage Group. He and his wife volunteered regularly at Hospitality House.
Carl is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his two daughters, Karen Emerick of Hickory and Judy Hummel of Akron, OH; two grandchildren, Scott Emerick of Boston, MA, and Becky Emerick Wetzel of Chatham, NJ; great granddaughter, Clara, of Chatham, NJ; one brother, Paul Storm of Aurora, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Delbert, and sister, Pearl.
A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 237 2nd St. NW, Hickory, NC on Friday, May 3 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to one of the following: ALS Association, Catawba Regional Hospice, or First Presbyterian Church in Hickory.
