Edwin Fredrich Wiehrdt, 92, of Hickory, NC passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2015.
Edwin was born on April 19, 1922 in Palatine, IL to the late Edwin Herman Wiehrdt and Lydia (Quentin) Wiehrdt and was a graduate of Palatine High School, Palatine, IL. Her served his country in WWII in the 103rd Division, 328 Medical Battalion and was discharged with the rank of T/5 on November 11, 1945.
After leaving the service, Edwin worked for Cudahy Packing Co., in Chicago, IL. He remained there until 1947 when he got a job in the Credit Dept. of Elgin Watch Co., in Elgin, IL. He worked there for 18 years, when in 1965 he took a position as Credit Manager at DuKan Corp. in St. Charles, IL, retiring in 1981.
Edwin enjoyed playing golf and shot his age several times. He also had a passion for his flowers, and birds. He always wore a smile and enjoyed a good laugh. His friends came from all walks of life. He will be remembered fondly and greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Wiehrdt, his sister, Ruth Muehfelt, and first wife, Lucille (Rieke) Wiehrdt, and step son, Darren Teets.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Sharon Anderson Wiehrdt, daughters Deborah Westphal (William), Kathleen Brosnan, son, Christopher Wiehrdt (Kim). Thre are three grandchildren, Nichole Westphal (Matthew Thatcher), Bradley Westphal (Amanda Secor), and Kevin Wiehrdt. Two great grandchildren, Isabelle and Christian Martinez. Stepdaughter, Pam Wagner (Carl), step grandchildren, Tiffany Begley (Brian), Valerie Scorzo (Sean McNamee), and Andrew Wagner, and tree step grandchildren, Vincent, Remington, and Abigail Wagner.
A celebration of Edwin's life will be observed on Saturday, April 11, 2pm at Corinth Reformed Church, Hickory, NC. The family will greet friends following the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catawba Regional Hospice, or Corinth Reformed Church Good Samaritan Fund.
