Mrs. Elfrieda (Frieda) Stanus Reid, 85, of Hickory, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, at Palliative Care Center & Hospice of Catawba Valley after a period of declining health.
Frieda, as she was known to friends and family, was born in her beloved Vienna, Austria, on February 1, 1927, to the late Georgine Gutt Stanus and Ernest Stanus. Frieda moved from Vienna to Hickory in 1954. She was a beautician who practiced her profession for 64 years. She considered her customers as her extended family. She enjoyed gardening, needlework, the music of Austria and spending time with her family.
Frieda was a long time member of West Hickory Baptist Church. She was the loving wife of William David Reid whom she met while he was serving with the US Army in Vienna. She was preceded in death by sisters Adrienne Carter, Gertrude Styskalik and Anna Sperl and brothers Rudy Stanus and Adam Stanus. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Bebe Leitch and her husband Ron, her son Rudy Reid of Asheville and a brother William Stanus of Ontario, Canada. She is also survived by grandchildren Hedy Murphy and her husband John of Huntersville, Graeme Cummings and his fiancé Brittany Burns of Hickory, Holly Reid of Lenoir, Annabeth Leitch of King, NC, Mackey Leitch of Asheville and one great granddaughter Addison Murphy. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. The family would like to give recognition to a special niece, Susie Macijewski, who has been a loving and dedicated caregiver for the last two years.
Funeral services will be held at West Hickory Baptist Church at 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 1, 2012 with the Rev. Scott Frady officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2 – 3:00 p. m. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery following the service.
