Jean Zaharchuk passed away August 10, 2019 one day short of her 89th Birthday after a long and terrible battle with dementia.
The daughter of George and Alice Stubbs and widow of Alexi Zaharchuk, Jean passed away at Brookdale Falling Creek, Hickory, NC where she resided the last four years.
Jean was fiercely independent, self-reliant, resilient, and generous. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone and was the best neighbor and friend a person could have. Jean will be dearly missed by her four daughters, friends and all who knew her.
A person of many talents, Jean earned her B.S. in social work from Cornell University. She also earned her NJ real estate license and H&R Block tax preparer certification. She was a loyal mom, wife, grandmother, great grandmother, PAWS volunteer, neighbor and church member.
Jean and Al lived several places, but Jean would call the following places home: Southampton, NY; Pitman, NJ; Brockport, NY; Hilton, NY; and Fort Pierce, FL.
Al pre-deceased Jean by sixteen years. She leaves behind four loving daughters, a granddaughter, a great granddaughter, a son in law, partner, and grand son-in-law, along with a brother-in-law and three nephews and their spouses and families.
Jean was modest and unassuming and asked that no public services be held. She would not want flowers, but she would like it if you paid a kindness in her memory to someone who needs one.
Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory is serving the family of Jean Zaharchuk.
