Joanne Edwards White Shuford, 84, of Hickory died Friday, May 31, 2013 at Frye Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her family.
Born March 28, 1929 to the late William Cordell White and Opal Potter White in Salem, VA., the family later moved to Bryson City and Asheville before settling in Hickory. She graduated from Salem College in 1951 with a degree in Home Economics. She made all happy with her smile. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, sharing ideas, picnics, family time, playing bridge and life to the hilt, as well as her membership in the Hickory Women's Club. She was very active with Hickory Landmarks Society, working tirelessly to help preserve historic homes and the heritage of Catawba County. She was honored for those efforts recently by both the HLS and the DAR. She was an avid and faithful supporter and alumae of Salem College (Winston-Salem, NC), and was recognized by them for her major part in the renovation and preservation of Sister's House. She shared so much support and love with her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a younger brother, Paul William White.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Wade Hampton Shuford, Jr. of the home; a son Wade Hampton Shuford III and wife Kathleen of Conover; a son David William Shuford of San Diego, CA; and a granddaughter, Amanda Lindsay Shuford of Conover.
A celebration of Joanne's life will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at Corinth Reformed Church in Hickory. The Reverend Dr. Bob Thompson will officiate, with interment at Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 5 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Corinth Reformed Church, Hickory, NC.

Life is mysterious and often times too short. But she enjoyed a long, good and blessed life for which her family and friends are most grateful.
