Lyla Marlene Diehl Lemley of Granite Falls passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at her residence.
Born May 17, 1940 in Aloha, Oregon she was the daughter of the late Gordon Diehl and Elaine McKinster Diehl. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister Myrna Klinker.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Charles Robert Lemley of the home; son, Robert Lemley and wife Alicia of Broadway, NC; daughters, Diane L. Blazer and husband Brad of Granite Falls, Marlene Troutman of Huntsville, Alabama; two sisters, Doris Cook and husband Michael of St. Regis, Montana, Deloris Atkins and husband Frank of Yuma, Arizona; one brother, Kenneth Diehl and wife Marla of Prineville, Oregon; 5 grandsons; 3 granddaughters, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Lyla loved fishing, rock hounding, and basically enjoyed being outside, especially when living in Oregon where she enjoyed fishing for trout, salmon, and halibut on Lake Ochaco, Antelope Lake, and Sunset Beach. She also enjoyed working in her gardens.
Lyla began her military career at Fort Gordon, GA, where she met her husband Charles and the couple transferred to Fort Bragg, NC where she worked as a dental therapist for 29 years. Most of her career was spent at LaFlamme Dental Clinic with the 82nd Air Borne Division and she greatly enjoyed her work.
Lyla was a devoted caretaker to her parents and a loving wife, mother and daughter. She was a great companion, a loyal friend and she will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held this summer when all of the family can gather together.
