Mary Ann Lackey Taylor, 73, of Hickory, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2012 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.
Born October 15, 1938 in Lincolnton, NC, she was the daughter of the late V.G." Bill" Lackey and Mary Adelaide Barlow Lackey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, David Frank Taylor
Mary Ann was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hickory, where she was the Chairwoman of the Altar Guild, served for 4 years as a Stephen Minister, helped with many receptions, was a member of both the Sunday Night Women's Bible Study Group and the Good Shepherd Sunday School Class.
She was a graduate of WC and had worked at Richard Baker Hospital before having a family. She was also a member of the Hickory Service League for over 30 years, volunteered with the Hickory Landmarks Society, Hickory City Schools, and Frye Regional Medical Center.
Mary Ann loved puzzles, tennis, traveling, and the beach. She was an amazing wife, mother, friend and grandmother. "Lady" left a legacy of love for all grandmothers everywhere.
She is survived by a son, Zachary D. Taylor and wife Beth of Hickory, NC; two daughters: Shannon T. Bailey and husband Brad of Hickory, NC, Sarah T. Wood and husband Shanon of Hickory, NC; brother, Jimmy Lackey of Charlotte, NC; four granddaughters: Kelsey E. Lundquist and Mary T. Lundquist, both of Greensboro, NC, Vivian E. Wood and Cate B. Taylor both of Hickory, NC; a grandson, David B. Taylor of Hickory, NC; and an aunt, Jean Barlow King of Lincolnton, NC.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2012 in Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. William B. Trexler officiating, followed by a memorial service at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
