Wayne Simpson Reid, 72, of Joelton, TN, formerly of Hickory, passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at the Centennial Hospital in Ashland City, TN.
He was born May 3, 1940 in Catawba County to the late John S. Reid and Margaret Yoder Reid. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Wayne and Wayne Simpson Reid; and a daughter, Linda Ruth Reid.
Wayne attended New Hope Free Will Baptist Church and was a veteran of the US Army. He retired from Duke Energy after 28 years of service as a lineman. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing with his grandson, Lochlan. An avid gardener, Wayne was known for his delicious tomatoes. He was devoted to his family and Wayne and his loving wife of 50 years moved to Nashville, TN to be with their daughter and grandson. He was a quiet, simple man who is best described by one word, steadfast.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Ann Bollinger Reid of the home; a daughter, Donna Marie Reid Kilkelly of Nashville, TN; two brothers, Bruce Reid and Harold Lee Reid, both of Hickory; and his grandson, Lochlan Reid Kilkelly of Nashville, TN.
Funeral services will be held at 3pm on Thursday, August 2, 2012 in the Bass-Smith Chapel with the Rev. Dale Faulkenbury officiating. Burial will follow at the Winkler's Grove Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 1, 2012 from 7 – 8:30 p.m. at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.
