Marilyn Taylor Reed died at home lovingly surrounded by her family in Hickory, NC on Wednesday, June 7.
Marilyn is preceded in death by parents Deane A. Taylor and Mary Martino Taylor and brother Deane A. Taylor Jr. who died in the Vietnam War in 1969. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, J. Philip Reed Jr., children Jennifer L. Oursler (Dr. Trey Oursler III) of Hickory, NC and David P. Reed (Heidi Brown Reed) of Kennesaw, GA, sister Cathy Tackett of Goodyear, AZ, and granddaughters Delaney, Carolyn, Cate Everett, and Emmeline Oursler of Hickory NC and Laurel and Addison Reed of Kennesaw, GA.
Born in Clifton Springs, NY, Marilyn grew up in St. Petersburg, FL and moved to Atlanta, GA when her father's business moved to the new Atlanta Merchandise Mart in 1961. While studying art at the University of Georgia in 1967, she married her high school sweetheart, Philip Reed.
Marilyn enjoyed operating retail gift shops in Lawrenceville, Lilburn, and Dahlonega for over 20 years, embracing her love of both shopping and decorating. "Gramma" Marilyn cherished time baking, traveling, and playing Monopoly with her beautiful granddaughters. She loved watching the sunrise, collecting seashells, and looking for dolphins at her beloved Tybee Island, GA, as well as cultivating a new relationship with her recently discovered cousin Carol Wimberley of Salt Lake City, Utah.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
