Helen Graham Boyd completed her earthly life’s journey October 11, 2017.
Born 10/16/1930 in Todd, Ashe County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Knox Graham and Beulah McGuire Graham. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Glenn Boyd and son Rick.
Mrs. Boyd was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Women’s Bible Class, served on Church Council, Older Adult Council, visitation committee, United Methodist Women, usher, kitchen committee and prayer line.
Survivors include son Randy and wife Amy of Gastonia; brother Kenneth Graham and wife Arlinda of Hickory; sister Lorraine Stephens and husband Charles of Todd; grandson Tyler Boyd and wife Karimah of Cary; grandson Spencer Boyd of Chapel Hill; niece Susan Graham Armstrong and husband Richard of Hickory; niece Sherri and husband William McCollian of Marion, Virginia; nephew David Stephens and wife Debbie of Todd; two great nieces, Natalie Armstrong of Hickory and Nicole Blakeman of Todd; one great nephew Graham Armstrong of Hickory; two great grandchildren and many beloved cousins.
She was strong in her faith and her talents allowed her to change career paths several times. She loved to garden, especially her flowers, finding peace in the outdoors.
Death is not the result of unanswered prayer, but rather the perfect, if mysterious, plan of a perfect Father who loves her and continues to love those she leaves behind.
A celebration of her life will be at 11:00 am Saturday, October 14, at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Paul Christy and Rev. Wil Posey officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the church parlor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 311 Third Avenue, NE, Hickory, NC, 28601 or Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC, 28658.
Bass-Smith Funeral Home, Hickory, is serving the family.
