Rose Myers Dietz, 93, of Hickory, passed away Friday, February 8, 2019 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.

Rose, loving known by many as “Mama Rose”, was born February 5, 1926 in Davidson County, N.C. to the late Allison Myers and Susie Conrad Myers. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Milford Lee “Bill” Dietz, her son, Alan Dietz, seven siblings; Ruth Beck, Leo “Jack” Myers, Willie Mae Barnes, Hazel Nance, Hoke Myers, Eva Haltom and Aubrey “Buddy” Myers, two brothers in law; Jim Dietz and Darrell Dietz.

Mrs. Dietz was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church for 72 years, where she was the 1st female Council President, member of the women’s Elizabeth Circle, and taught Sunday School for over 50 years.

The youngest of 8 children, she attended Elon University and then went to work for the Department of Treasury in Washington, D.C. Two years later she came back to North Carolina to work for Western Union where she met her husband, Bill. They married February 15, 1947. Bill and Rose later started Dietz Motor Lines in 1965 and worked side by side until Bill’s death in 1975. She and her son Alan carried on the business until her retirement in 1995.

Mrs. Dietz loved to travel with her siblings, which included extensive travel in the United States, Europe and the Caribbean, but her happy place was the beach. She was an active member of 7 Bridge Clubs, enjoyed doing crosswords and word searches, most of all she loved to dote on her grandchildren and offered to babysit every chance she could.
